REVENUE OPERATIONS
Clean Data Is Not an Admin Project. It’s Your Instrument Panel.
What a Score 5 CRM does to your decisions, what a Score 10 looks like, and one count you can run this week.

No pilot flies on instruments they do not trust. Yet that is how many companies run revenue: decisions made from a panel that everyone quietly second-guesses.
Your CRM isn't a system of record. It's a system of opinions with timestamps.
Score 5 and Score 10
In a Score 5 organization, the fields are filled in and nobody trusts them. A Score 10 organization can run the very same CRM and have a completely different relationship with it. Here is the contrast.

What a Score 5 costs you
Every decision downstream becomes negotiable: territory design, capacity planning, coverage math and the forecast. You are no longer debating strategy. You are debating whether the data is right, and that argument burns weeks while nobody wins it.
Poor data quality leads to poor decisions. Not eventually. Immediately.
What changes at Score 10
• A short list of fields tied to real decisions. Not everything someone once wanted to track.
• Required at stage exit. Hygiene happens inside the workflow, not after it.
• Managers are measured on data quality. The same way they are measured on pipeline.
• Audited on a cadence. Against what is happening in deals, not against what reps say is happening.
Where Confidence Replaces Evidence
Data nobody trusts makes one habit almost inevitable: forecasting on confidence. A rep tells you a deal is 90% closed. What does that number actually mean?
Usually nothing. It means they feel good about it. Ask what moved the number from 60 to 90. Most of the time the answer is silence: no new signer engaged, no next step booked, nothing changed except the rep's gut. It is a feeling with a decimal point attached.

We call this the confidence tax. Every forecast built on feel instead of proof pays it eventually, usually in the last two weeks of the quarter, when the “sure thing” does not close and nobody can explain why.
Control is not about tightening the reins. It is about replacing opinion with proof before the number ever reaches your board deck.
One Thing to Inspect This Week
You do not need a project to find out where you stand. Pull every open opportunity and count the ones with no next step and no date.

In one diagnostic we ran, 32% of active opportunities had no documented next step. Then count how many close dates sit in the past.
That single view tells you more than any adoption report will. An adoption report shows whether people logged in. This count shows whether the deals in your system are real.
The Bottom Line
Clean data is not an admin project. It is the instrument panel. Every call you make on territories, capacity and forecast is read off it.
